Get a boost in your mileage and in acceleration...get your engine
supercharged
If you want better mileage and more power, you should
think about getting a supercharger for your engine.
Superchargers are not available for every vehicle, but the
availability is getting better every day.
Most people think that superchargers are for muscle cars
or sports cars because that is where superchargers were
developed.
For a long time, superchargers were an aftermarket
accessory that hard-core wrench heads installed on their
street rods. These devices cna help your engine generate
from 1-2 hp per cubic inch of displacement using premium
fuel from a gasoline pump. Now, superchargers are being
offered on a lot of vehicles as part of the factory
package.
Most companies promote the power associated with the
installation of a supercharger, because power and
acceleration is what sells cars. Few people know what the
installation of a supercharger can actually increase your
fuel mileage as much as 3 mpg. When you add the improved
fuel economy to the power that a supercharger provides, a
reasonable person has to ask the question, "Why don't all
vehicles have superchargers?"
Good question. The reason is that the supercharger
complicates an already complicated power train.
Superchargers require special sparkplugs in order to get
the performance you expect, they also cause serious
congestion under the hood making almost every other repair
more expensive because the supercharger and its associated
components may need to be removed.
So, if you want a supercharger, you will pay a price on
the front end and on the back end, but the fun you'll have
with the added horsepower and acceleration may be worth it.
It's up to you to decide if you want to add one to your
vehicle in the aftermarket.
